Would I need to add cross bars on a 2016 Toyota 4Runner, Or can this attach to the bars that run the length of the vehicle?

The Thule cargo basket part # TH859XT-8591XT needs to have a set of crossbars that run from left to right on the roof of the vehicle for it to install on. So for your 2016 Toyota 4Runner we have the Inno roof rack part # INB127 and # INFR which is a confirmed fit and would work well for the vehicle and cargo basket.
