Troubleshooting 1999 Ford F-350 Powerstroke That Loses Power on Highway

Question:

Hi, the last time I pulled my gooseneck horse trailer with our 1996 Ford F-350, 7.3 Powerstroke, the brake box was blinking a code and it seemed our truck was losing power, it felt like it was starting off in 3rd gear... Im not sure if that has anything to do with what the brake Controller was blinking, but it was ironic both were acting up. What does that blinking code mean? The brake box is a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller. Before that, weve never had a problem.

The brake controller and the vehicle issues would not be related at all. And there would be no way that an error code for what's going on with your truck would be shown on your controller. My parents had a 1999 Ford F-350 Powerstroke similar to yours and it had a similar issue to what you described. In our situation it turned out to be a bad cam position sensor. Your generation of truck is somewhat notorious for this problem so most likely it is the same issue.
