Parts Needed to Install an Electric Brake Controller on Two Vehicles for Towing a Camper Trailer
Question:
I have just purchased a new camper trailer and was wandering if I could set up or wire up the brakes to both my cars. One is a1994 Toyoto Hilux traytop ute and the other is aToyoto Prado 1998. Is there a controller I can transfer from one vehicle to the other. Can I do this myself?

Yes, you can set up both of your vehicles for towing trailers with electric brakes. The only requirement is that you have a 12 volt constant power source for the brake controller you choose, and that you have a brake light signal that has 12 volt power only when the brake pedal is pressed.
The Prodigy P2, # 90885 brake controller, would make a great choice for moving from one vehicle to the other, with the addition of a second mounting pocket, # 7686 and a second plug-in harness, # 20127. You would just unplug the connector at the rear of the P2 brake controller and reattach it in the second vehicle, then slip it into the second vehicle mounting pocket.
To install the brake controller on your vehicles you would need a working 4-Way trailer connector and a brake controller installation kit, # ETBC7, for each vehicle, see instructions link. I also have a video installation that should prove very helpful, see link.
If you have different style trailer connectors in Australia you would need to purchase the appropriate connector for your vehicle to match the trailer there. The 4-Way wiring will be vehicle specific and you will need to determine where to find wiring for your vehicles, we do not have any information on the 1994 Toyota Hilux or 1998 Toyota Prado wiring at this time.
