Best Weight Distribution System With Sway Control for Jayco Hummingbird 17FD

Question:

Weight distribution with sway control - I have just purchased a jayco hummingbird 17fd with tw of arroud 300 and trailer max weight about 3700. Im towing with a 2018 ram rebel with air suspension. What would be my best choice. I had the Reese straight line but it is to heavy for my current setup. I have also been looking at the Anderson. Currently I am running no weight distribution with a friction sway control.

Since you mentioned your Hummingbird's GVWR was 3,700 lbs we can estimate that, depending on the amount of cargo you have have your tongue weight will be anywhere from 500 lbs to 700 lbs. That can be a tricky weight in terms of a good system but the best option is going to be from Equal-i-zer.

The Equal-i-zer # EQ37060ET is for total tongue weights between 200 lbs and 600 lbs so it would be the better option if you were on the lower end of the tongue weight scale while the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET is rated for tongue weights between 600 lbs and 1,000 lbs and would be the better option if you were on the higher end of the scale.

Our customers who have used this system regard it very highly, with well over 300 reviews it has averaged nearly 5 out of 5 stars, as you can see on the product page. This system comes with everything you need for installation though it is recommended you use thin-walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 to help install the hitch ball.

To determine the best weight distribution with sway control for your Jayco Hummingbird 17FD you will need to know your total tongue weight (TTW) which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer plus the weight of any axle behind your 2018 Ram.

Tongue weight is typically between 10% and 15% of your trailer's GVWR but you'll want to verify it by using a scale such as the # e99044 or by using one of the methods outlined in the help article on determining tongue weight I've linked for you. From there, simply add on the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle and you'll have your TTW. The ideal system would be one in which your TTW would fall somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's tongue weight capacity.
