Can the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Be used on a 1990 Ford F-850 Derrick Truck Towing a Bull Dozer
Question:
I have a 1990s Ford F850 digger derick truck I use to pull a ten ton dual axle trailer with electric brakes. I haul a 18,000 pound bull dozer on it in the mountains of Ky. Will this controller handle it? There is an old brake controller on it but it no longer works.

The P2 brake controller would work great on your 20,000 lb dual axle trailer, as long as the braking system is a 12 volt system and there are no more than 8 brake magnets in the trailer braking system.
Typically tandem axle trailers with brakes on both axles have 4 brake magnets, but some heavy duty trailers, possibly like your 10 ton trailer, have dual wheels on each side of the axle and could have 8 brake magnets installed. Just make sure there are no more than 8 brake magnets on your trailer.
The controller will be able to handle the trailer braking system, the condition of the braking system will be the factor that determines how well the trailer brakes will work once a new brake controller is installed.
I have attached a link to brake controller installation instructions, and to a brake controller installation kit, # ETBC7, just in case you need the associated wiring and circuit breakers to complete your installation.
