Comparing Demco Recon and B&W Patriot Fifth Wheel Hitch for Ease of Removal/Install
Question:
I am looking at buying the demco recon hitch. I was wondering if this is a quality hitch. I was looking for a lighter hitch. How does this compare to a BandW 18k patriot hitch . Is one better than the other or are they equal in quality. I am pulling a 16000# 5th wheel and 3300# of tongue weight. I want to make sure that the demco safe and secure for that size trailer. I also already have the bed rails in my truck. Its a 3500 Chevy. Silverado. I am just getting older and need a lighter hitch to move on my own. Thank you.

The Demco Recon hitch part # DM8550043 is a well-made fifth wheel hitch that is made here in the USA. I'd put the quality of this hitch up to basically any other hitch manufacturer out there. This hitch weighs 100 lbs which is a bit lighter than most fifth wheel hitches. The B and W Patriot hitch part # BWRVK3255 is also a great option too. Most people consider the jaw system and head design of this hitch to be the best around so it's hard to beat. This hitch is also made in the USA and weighs 138 lbs.
Since weight is your biggest concern I'd go with the Recon. Not only is it lighter but it very easily breaks down into smaller sections to make removing it very easy. I
