Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring Recommendation for 2013 Ford Edge SEL
Question:
Are trailer brakes needed while towing. With 2013 ford edge SEL ?

Expert Reply:
For your 2013 Ford Edge SEL there is not any specific regulation from the manufacturer. Many states have requirements for trailer weight and whether they need to have brakes. Although this does vary from state to state and you should check your local laws, most of the time trailers over 3,500 lbs do require brakes.
To get your vehicle ready to brakes, you will need a 7-way trailer wiring harness and a brake controller. To get your vehicle prepared for that, I recommend starting with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118515. Then you will use the wiring kit # ETBC7 which includes all the connectors, wire, and circuit breakers needed to give you a 7-way connector. Then you just need a brake controller and I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 because it has easy to use presets and has an LCD screen that is user friendly. I've attached videos to further assist. Let me know if you have any questions.
