Powered A-Frame Trailer Jack Cannot Retract After Being Extended

Question:

JACK WAS BROUGHT UP AND NOW WILL NOT COME DOWN. MAKES A WHINING NOISE LIKE IT IS STRIPED THE GEARS. WAS IT BROUGHT TO FAR UP ? I TRIED TO USE THE MANUEL PART TO LOW BUT IT ALSO FEELS LIKE IT IS LOCK UP. THE LEG OF THE JACK EXTENDS ABOUT TWO INCHES DOWN FROM MAIN SLEEVE. WHAT IF ANY OPTIONS DO I HAVE?

It definitely sounds like your jack may have been over extended. On a lot of powered A-frame jacks when this happens it ends up warping the nut and screw that allows the jack to travel up and down. Unfortunately there isn't a way to fix or replace this component so the jack will need to be replaced.
I have attached a short video demonstration that you can also check out.

I think the best value for an A-frame tongue jack is the Stromberg Carlson # SC63VR which is rated for 4500 pounds of tongue weight. This is 1000 pounds more than other models, and even though you may not need this much capacity, you will find that the jack motor runs quick and effortlessly. This will add years to its life. This jack also has a unique clutch that prevents damage from overextending or retracting the jack foot - the most common reason for jack failure. I also like that is has a generous 23" lift, including a time-saving drop-foot. It includes LED lights for operating the hitch in the dark, and a built-in bullseye leveling bubble.
