Recommended Brake Controller Hard Wiring for 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

I currently have all the wiring installed, with a red brake signal wire running from under the dash to the rear of the Santa Fe, where about 4 feet of it is stuffed into the compartment with the plug and play 4 wire kit. The brake signal is apparently mixed with the turn signals and running lights on our RPOD camper that has a single LED signal light on opposite sides of the rear of the camper. So what wire on the 4-way connector do I get an isolated brake signal?

You are correct. On your 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe we have found that the connection to the brake light wire is really difficult to get to as you stated when attempting to install a brake controller like # 90885. You can see in the attached video that our installer instead pulled that wire with an added extension back the 4-way connector to capture that signal in a different location for the # ETBC7 kit. If you need extra wire you can use # 10-1-1 for that which is sold by the foot. You will want to use the circuit tester from the # ETBC7 kit to determine the stop light wire separate from the turn signal prior to the converter box.

Your Santa Fe has a 3 wire system at your tail lights, so there is already a separate brake signal for you to tap into before the powered modulite to capture that brake signal for your brake controller. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to determine that isolated brake wire if needed.
