Parts Needed to Install Trailer Brake Controller on 2009 Toyota RAV4 with 4-Way Connector
Question:
Hi again, maybe well switch from the 04 Sienna to the Rav 4 to tow our new camper about 3000 lb loaded. Need to add brake controller and convert from 4pin to 7 pin round. Can someone put that list of parts together again for the Rav [it might be different than the Sienna]. We already have the proper hitch on that car, so its more about utilizing the camper trailer brakes. Will one of those wires also charge the batter on the camper as we drive? Thanks

In order to convert the existing 4-Way on your 2009 Toyota RAV4 to a fully functional 7-Way you just need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to do this along with the extra wiring and circuit breakers for installing a brake controller. You will also be able to run wiring from the vehicle's battery to the 12V pin on the 7-Way with this kit, which will activate the 12V pin on the connector so that you can provide a maintenance charge to your camper battery while you drive.
I have attached the complete installation instructions and added a helpful diagram below that shows how all the wiring runs.
Then for the brake controller itself the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 will still work great. I have attached the manual for the controller that you can look at as well.
I did also take a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your RAV4 and found that with the 3.5L V6 engine and factory tow package it does have a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, so it looks like you are good to go!
