Brake Controller Recommendation for 2015 Dodge Durango R/T
Question:
Hello, I tow a stock 2017 Haulmark Passport PPT7X14DT2 enclosed trailer with a 2015 Dodge Durango R/T. I dont know enough about towing yet. The trailer has electric drum brakes and a breakaway kit. Beyond that, I know very little. I have trouble slowing the trailer on grades and was wondering if a brake controller would help. I honestly dont even know if the trailer brakes are active when towing, or if they only kick on if the trailer brakes away. I do feel like the trailer brakes are assisting at times, but the effect is not enough to be sure. If a brake controller may help would you please recommend one? Otherwise could you please suggest the additional mods that would be necessary to improve stopping power. Thank You!

A brake controller is definitely recommended for your application. Without one the brakes on your trailer would not activate at all. A brake controller will apply a varying amount of voltage to apply the brakes on your trailer smoothly.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller part # 90195. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. This will be the last brake controller you buy. It can easily be transferred to future vehicles as well.
All you need to install this controller is the correct install harness part # TK93VR which is a confirmed fit. Basically it plugs into the back of the controller and then into a port under the dash and you're set. I attached an install video to this page that shows this installed on a similar 2014 Dodge Durango as yours as well.
