Availability of a Bike Rack for Thule Roof Cargo Basket
Question:
I will be installing the Malone Katahdin Roof Cargo Basket on my 2015 Mini Countryman and would like to buy two wheel-mount bike carriers to mount inside the basket. Can you tell me what my options are? My concerns are that the bike carrier must be short enough to fit inside the roof basket when fully open and would need for the clamping mechanism to be adaptable for attachment to the Katahdin internal basket tubes, although I expect I may need to do some custom modifications to make that work.

What you are wanting to do is a great idea, but unfortunately you will need a different cargo basket on your 2015 Mini Countryman because the Thule Roof Cargo Basket # TH859XT wasn't created with the intent of mounting a bike rack on it.
For a similarly priced basket that was meant to have bike racks and other accessories mounted to it we have the Yakima LoadWarrior # Y07070. I spoke with my contact at Yakima who said that you simply have to pivot the fairing forward when installing your bike rack.
Yakima actually has some great bike rack options for you to use with the LoadWarrior. The FrontLoader # Y02103 is a wheel mount bike rack. We also have fork mount racks like the ForkLift # Y02098 or the HighSpeed # Y02115.
