Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2001 GMC School Bus

Question:

We have a 2001 GMC Thomas School Bus built on a GMC Savana 3500 chassis. Will this hitch fit our school bus? Also, do you have anything with the dimensions of this hitch, particularly the height from top to bottom? At first glance, it appears that if this does fit our bus that it would not hang below the rear bumper and I would have to cut a hole in the bumper. It is hard to tell from only a photo and I havent found anything that states the dimensions yet. Thanks!

The only type of trailer hitch that may work on a school bus like your 2001 GMC Thomas School Bus is an adjustable hitch like the Curt # 13703. This is a universal type hitch that will fit box, C-channel, or I-beam frames that are 22 inches to 72 inches wide. Hardware is included for a bolt-on installation or the hitch can be welded for a no-drill application.

I have attached an installation video and the written instructions that you can use for reference.

I did go out to our warehouse and measured a distance of 9-1/2 inches from the top of the mounting bracket to the bottom of the receiver on the Buyers Products 2 Inch Hitch # 3371801102. With that being said, it is very unlikely that a custom hitch like this one will fit properly on your School Bus because of its extended bumper.
