Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch to Use with Demco Base Rails Adapter
Question:
I have the Demco adaptor plate #6140 and want to purchase a new fifth wheel hitch. Can you recommend hitches that are compatible with it?

Expert Reply:
The Demco 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter for B&W Turnoverball # DM6140 that you referenced is compatible with any fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to industry-standard, above-bed rails with the exception of automatic sliding hitches like the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550034. This opens the door to quite an array of options for your truck. The best hitch for your particular truck will really depend on whether you have a short or long bed model along with the type of capacity you are needing (weight of the trailer you are towing).
If you have a long bed (8 foot) on your Ram I recommend taking a look at the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16130. This is an excellent, heady-duty hitch that features a 2-jaw locking system for a secure connection to the trailer and a pivoting head that allows for easy hookup and a nicer ride. It has a 20,000 pound towing weight capacity.
If you have the shorter 6-1/2 foot bed you will want to go with a sliding hitch so that you have the needed cab clearance when making tight turns. The Curt A0 w/ R20 Slider # C16541 is a great option that features the same jaw design as the above-mentioned option but with a non-binding slider that provides 12 inches of front to back travel.
