Does Roadmaster High Low Adapter # RM-077-6 Cut Capacity of Hitch Its Used On
Question:
I have a Curt 18153 which I am looking to lower approx. 6in so I can open and close the rear swing door on my 2015 Jeep Unlimited. I am thinking with a 6in , this would clear an unloaded carrier. The RM-077-6 looks like it could work. My concern is the derating. I have read in other posts that the RM-077-6 doesnt derate the trailer hitch because it has its own tongue weight. I am not sure I am understanding that. Please explain. Thanks

Expert Reply:
If you use a hitch adapter like the part # RM-077-6 you do cut the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. This is true regardless of the capacity of the adapter. If the capacity reduction is fine it can be used with the Curt cargo carrier part # C18151.
