Using the Swagman Semi 2.0 Part # S64686 on a 2017 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

Hello, I am looking to buy a bike rack for my 2017 Toyota Tacoma Limited truck. I have a Raliegh mountain bike and I really like this bike rack design. I think the hook over the wheel concept is a great design as it eliminates hook to frame/paint rubbing, and holds the bike more firmly in place. I also like that the tire cradles sit on top of the metal arm, and not to the side stronger point of contact. I do have four questions. 1. Do you know if this bike rack will allow complete clearance for my tailgate to be fully lowered for a 2017 Toyota Tacoma Limited? 2. What would be the clearance from the nearest point of the vehicle to the rack in the closed/stowed position? 3. Should the wheel straps break or become stripped, do you offer replacement parts, if so, how much are they? 4. How does the 2.0 compare to similar Kuat, Thule or Yakima models?

We have not yet tested the Swagman Semi 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack part # S64686 on a 2017 Toyota Tacoma but I can tell from looking at the tilting feature that it would more than likely not allow for the tailgate to be folded all the way down. In order to fold the tailgate down on your Tacoma with the Semi 2.0 installed you would need to use a hitch extender like part # C45795 but this will reduce your hitch's overall capacity by 50%.

The clearance you have between the vehicle and bike rack while folded up will be around 3"-5" depending on which trailer hitch you have installed. The wheel straps are not currently available as a replacements using part but several other components like the buckle part # S1009 and block part # S1008M to name a few. This is one of Swagman's top of the line options whereas if you went with a Thule, Yakima, or Kuat you would be looking at the mid-low end of the spectrum for around the same money which would not have as many features and most likely will have to purchase locks separately.

I personally love the Semi 2.0 both for it's looks and function. It will be a much better value (bang for your buck) than other brands such as Thule, Yakima, Kuat etc. I have attached a review video for you as well.
