Adding a 7 and 4-Way Trailer Connector to a 1997 Ford F-350 Diesel Dually

Im probably asking a redundant question but here goes. Regarding Pollak Part # 40975I recently purchased a 1997 Ford F-350 Diesel Dually Truck. It only has the 7 pole plug. I also tow trailers with the 4 pole flat plug. My question follows: If I install Pollak Part # 40975, do I remove the existing 7 pole plug on the Ford F 350? Then trace the factory connector on the truck? Or, can I simply use the existing 7 pole plug on the Ford F-350 and plug it into the back o fthe Pollak HM 40975 connector? Thanks

Because there is no replacement multi-tow trailer connector that fits a 1997 Ford F-350, you would either need to hardwire one in or use an adapter. The easiest solution is to use an adapter, # HM47570. It plugs into the 7-Way and will allow you to plug in a 6-Way, 4- Way or 5-Way.

If you wanted to hardwire in a multi-tow 7 and 4-Way, you can use the Pollak 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector, # HM40975. It would have to be mounted below the bumper or in a convenient location of your choosing as it would not fit where the existing 7-Way is.

You would have to use the wiring from the old 7-Way and connect it to the wiring on the harness, # PK11998. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed to determine the wiring function on the truck and then attach them to the harness wires as follows:

Red - Left Turn and Stop
White - Ground
Blue - Electric Brakes
Green - Right Turn and Stop
Black - Battery
Brown - Running Lamps
Yellow - Backup Lamps
