Taillight Converter Recommendation for Adding Dedicated Stop and Turn Signals to Trailer
Question:
Hi, Firstly, thanks for the great products and service Ive received from etrailer.com in the past Im in Canada - no issues with shipping, customs, etc! My question is regarding splitting the combined STOP/TURN RandL wiring into individual STOP, LTURN and RTURN signals. Current configuration: Tow vehicle is 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe, AWD, 3.3L V6, with standard NA US/Canada 7-pin blade RV connection, i.e.: 1 LT/Stop 2 Electric trailer brakes 3 RT/Stop 4 Aux 12V supply 5 Tail/running 6 Ground 7 Aux spare - not currently used Trailer is 21foot hybrid TT, wiring configuration per tow vehicle. Trailer exterior lighting was originally incandescent, now converted to all LED. Current lighting is STOP/TURN/TAIL per usual. Question: Id like to split the STOP and TURN so I can add a top centre brake light on the trailer, as well as add side mounted TURN-only indicators - but Id also like to be able to use the existing 3-way STOP/TURN/TAIL led lights. Can I wire a converter i.e. your item# 118158 3-2 wire splitter downstream of the existing configuration so I can use both 3 and 2 wire systems for the STOP and TURN without signal feedback so as to isolate the systems? Note: Ive constructed a frame-supported rear cargo box and bike carrier unit that extents about 4foot beyond the rear bumper - I plan to extend the STOP/TURN/TAIL lighting to the back of this unit. Any feedback or advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

You can use the turn signal converter part # 118158 to accomplish what you are trying to do but instead of cutting the trailer wiring to run to the input side of the wiring you'd need to use something like a quick splice part # SWC501746-1 so that you can get the signals you need ran to the converter without stopping the circuit from getting to the combined taillights you already have.
Once you do this the output side of the converter box will have separate stop and turn signals available for you to run wherever needed.
