How to Secure Kayaks on Roof of Pop-Up Camper with AC Unit
Question:
Hello, I have a 2008 Starcraft 2409 pop up camper. I am wanting a roof rack for my kayaks. Here is the catch, I have a roof mounted airconditioner that is centered side to side and about 2/3 of the way towards the rear. The unit is about 20 inches tall. Do you have a rack for this application? Thank you

I may have a solution for you that allows you to secure your kayaks to the roof of your 2008 Starcraft 2409 Pop Up Camper.
Starting with the roof rack itself, I recommend taking a look at the SportRack Pop-Up Camper Roof Rack # SR1020. This rack is specifically designed for pop-up campers like what you have and features 4 feet that will permanently bolt to the camper's roof. Just note that this system will not work on roofs that have rounded or curved edges. The roof rack has a weight capacity of 200 pounds but you will also want to verify the capacity of the camper's roof. The crossbars themselves can adjust to up to 86 inches long.
When installing the legs you will just need to make sure that you space them out far enough to clear the AC unit on the camper. Then with the roof rack installed, your best option for securing your kayaks is with a J-style carrier like the Swagman # S65148. This will let you load the kayaks on their side so they take up minimal space on the roof. Depending on how wide the camper roof is, you may be able to place a carrier on each end of the crossbars (away from the AC unit) so that you can load the kayaks without any interference. This will also depend on just how large your kayaks are. This carrier does include tie-down straps and bow/stern anchors to secure the kayak in place.
I have attached a video demonstration that you can also check out.
