Question:
I bought a used camper with TS205/75R15 load C tires on dual tandem leaf spring axle. Two of the tires experienced blow outs. The trailer weighs 4000 lbs. what is the proper tire size to carry this load?

An ST205/75R15 trailer tire, such as the Kenda Karrier # AM10244, will have a maximum load of 1,820 pounds at 50 psi. When used on your tandem axle trailer, this will provide you with a combined load capacity of 7,280 pounds (4 X 1,820). In terms of capacity, your existing tires have more than enough strength to support your 4,000 pound trailer. You should not need to upgrade to a larger size or load range.
Trailer tire failure is most often the result of excessive heat buildup. This can be caused by overloading the tire but can also be the result of not inflating the tires to their maximum psi or exceeding their speed rating. Unless otherwise indicated on the tire's sidewall, trailer tires have a maximum speed rating of 65 mph. They also should always be inflated to the maximum psi, regardless of the type of load you are carrying.
The above mentioned Kenda Karrier tire is a great option for a replacement. It does have a 65 mph speed rating and comes with a limited 2-year warranty as well. If you want to have a higher speed rating, I recommend the Provider Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2057515C. This tire features the same load capacity as the Kenda unit but has an excellent speed rating of 81 mph.
I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these tires that you can also check out.
