Recommended 4.8X8 Size Trailer Tire with Higher Speed Rating

Question:

the current tires on the HF trailer are 4.8 x 8. The tire is only rated for 55mph I want to increase to at least 65mph. What are my options? Go to a 4.8x12?

We do have a couple of trailer tires in your same 4.8 x 8 size that will give you a higher speed rating. I recommend the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10004. This 6-ply trailer tire features a maximum load of 745 pounds at 90 psi and a speed rating of 65 mph.

If you want an even higher speed rating, then you will indeed need to upgrade in size for your tires and wheels. For a 4.80-12 tire and wheel combo I recommend the Taskmaster Radial Trailer Tire w/ White Spoke Wheel # TA98RR. This radial tire has a maximum load of 990 pounds at 90 psi and a speed rating of 81 mph. The wheel has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern so you will want to be sure this matches your hubs.

Keep in mind that this size tire will be about 4-1/2 inches larger in diameter compared to your existing units, so you will just want to make sure you have the fender clearance necessary for this change.

I have attached a couple short video demonstrations on these tires that you can also check out.
