Can a 20 Amp Motorized Lift be Tied into the 12 Volt Circuit on a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 7-Way Plug

Question:

I have a motorized lift sling to lift my scooter into the bed of my truck and was wondering if I could modify a trailer cannon plug to use to provide power to it via the already wired tow package instead of using the wiring harness supplied with the lift which is a 3 wire harness hooked directly to the battery. The unit has a built in 20A circuit breaker so it shouldnt exceed that but I dont know what the wires on the trailer plugs on my truck are rated for.

The 12 volt circuit on your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 is rated for 30 amps. You can confirm this by looking at fuse location 2 in the fuse panel under the hood. Assuming that you are not also teeing something else in that is drawing power from the 12 volt circuit at the same time you are using the lift then there won't be a problem. Otherwise it would blow the hot lead tow package fuse on the truck.
