Installation of Brake Controller on 2016 Ford Explorer
Question:
Hey guys. I’m installing a trailer brake controller, and a 7 pin adapterto the flat four I have installed on my 2016 explorer. The installation of the adapter seems straightforward but I am really not sure where I need to splice in the 3 extra wires. power, back up, brakes. I see the connector for the trailer brake controler under the dash, so I am assuming it’s prewired. Any help?

To install a brake controller on your 2016 Ford Explorer, if you have the factory 4-flat you will need to hardwire the rest in. I am not certain which brake controller you have specifically but the black wire is generally the power wire and run to the positive post of your battery through a 20- or 30-amp circuit breaker, and you also want to connect the blue wire coming out of the brake controller to the brake wire and the red wire from your controller will be what you connect to the wire carrying a signal when the brake pedal is engaged.
I have added a link for you to a help article on installing brake controllers as well as a video showing a brake controller being installed on a Ford Explorer that you can refer to.
