Troubleshooting Hayes Brake Controller that Works Intermittently

Question:

The trailer brakes stopped working along with the lever on the controller. A day later they magically start working again but barely. Now when I use the lever on the controller it will stop the trailer but after a 2-second delay with me holding the lever over.

Hayes brake controllers aren't known for their reliability. What you described sounds like an internal problem. You can try unplugging the controller for several seconds and then replugging it back in to reset it but most likely you'll need to replace it.
