How the Sliding Mechanism on the Demco Hijacker Works

Question:

I see the you suggest the Demco DM 8550024 for someone else with a similar question. How smoothly does this hitch slide on in-even terrain? Does it bind? I have experience towing with an f450 and 36’ 5th wheel, but that was a 176’ wheelbase truck. Plenty of room for a standard 5th wheel hitch

The action of the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch part # DM8550024 is very smooth. It uses a rack and pinion operation to move the hitch head which has a mechanical gear that will do its job no matter the terrain you are on. The only issue with uneven terrain is the uncoupling and coupling procedures which will need to be done when the trailer is no more than 15 degrees from the tow vehicle.
