Can the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66561 be Connected at an Angle and Technical Bulletin Explanation

Question:

Reese Steadi Flex 1400 lb tongue weight: Can the tow vehicle be connecting to the trailer on an angle? Also, I just saw a service bulletin about some type of couplers that may not fit this hitch. Can you show this or explain this so I can make the right purchase.

When installing any weight distribution (WD) system, like the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66561 that you referenced, you will need to connect straight-on and not at an angle. The reason being that there is already enough tension when installing the WD system straight-on, if you were to connect at an angle this would mean even more tension would be needed to properly install. It would be difficult to know if you had everything situated properly. Please note that you will also need a hitch ball like part # A-90 or # 19286 to complete your towing setup.

The Technical Bulletin TB17-01 from Reese that you are referring to has to do with trailer tongue frame clearance since the head of the Steadi-Flex unit is much larger than normal WD systems. If you check out the attached picture you can see how much clearance is needed depending on the depth of your frame. Green means you can use the Stadi-Flex while Red means there will be frame contact and you will need to look for a different system.

If the distance between the center of your coupler and your trailer frame are different just let me know what that measures as well as the depth of your frame and I can let you know if it will fit properly or not.

You also need to make sure that the loaded tongue weight (TW) of your trailer added with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle falls within the 700 lbs - 1,400 lbs TW range of this Steadi-Flex system. If it doesn't, let me know what those weights are and I can recommend the best WD system for you.
