Recommended Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch For 2012 Chevy Silverado Short Box

Your 2012 Chevy Silverado with a bed shy of 6 feet is referred to as a 5.5 foot bed. With this truck, I recommend starting with the custom base rail kit # RP50064-58. Then I recommend using the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Single Jaw - Above Bed - 13,000 lbs # DM8550040. This is the only hitch that will work without replacing your trailer pin box to give you the necessary turning clearance. It has 22-1/2 inches of travel to accommodate.
All other model hitches require a Sidewinder Pin box replacement to give you the 22 inch offset in the turning point to allow for proper clearance with your short bed truck.
You may also want to consider adding a second 7-way trailer connection to the bed of your truck for a clean look and easy connection using the Bargman # 50-97-410 wiring harness.
