The reason that there seems to be conflicting information is because Draw-Tite has taken the official stance (as of August 2018) that the trailer hitch # 75600 will not fit certain models of the BMW X5 with the M package due to the twin tail pipes being in the way and excessive cutting of the fascia.
I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and mentioned all of the customer reviews that we have received and he said that when they initially fit this trailer hitch on an X5 with the M package that those twin tail pipes were in the way. He also said that they haven't had an X5 with the M package in for some of the years though so there could be some design change that allows it to fit.
Officially we can't really say that it will fit when the manufacturer says it won't fit (unless we have test it for ourselves) so that is why our stance says it won't fit. I have attached an installation video and the written instructions for you to check out though so that you can compare them with your X5 to see if it will fit.
