Can You Install a Female Trailer Connector on the Trailer and Vehicle

Question:

I have a 2005 Chevy Express 3500 It comes equipped with a 4-way female plug. I am trying to haul a trailer equipped with a 7 blade female plug. I bought a 4 way male plug and a 7 blade male plug and was planning on wiring the 4 way male to the 7 blade male and using that as a connector between my vehicle and the trailer. I know it will not wire up the trailer brakes but that is ok with me for now. Also, I have already checked and confirmed that the pieces I bought are the right ends for both the trailer and my vehicle. I just wanted to make sure I am on the right track and am not going to mess up anything electrically by doing it this way. I have attached pictures of the two pieces I plan to wire together to make the connector between my vehicles.

The photos you referenced did come though but as long as you attach the wires in the correct locations then there should not be an issue. I will say that if you are going to be replacing and or wiring a new connector onto the vehicle or trailer you may as well do things the correct way which would be to install a female 7-way on the vehicle and a male 7-way on the trailer.

In order to do this you will need part # PK12706 for the trailer and part # PK12-707E for the vehicle. There are no other parts needed and you can run the brake output wire later down the road if you need to. If you take a look at the install videos you can see that all you need to do is strip the ends of the wires, place them in the correct terminals, and secure them with the screws.
