4 to 5-Way Trailer Adapter for a 2012 Kia Soul Towing a Pop-up Trailer with a 5-Way

Question:

I have a small pop up trailer with a 5 wire system.I just bought a 2012 KIA soul.What kind of wiring kit do i need to install on the car to adapt to the trailer?Will i use a standard 4 pole plug on the car with a 4 to 5 pole adapter so i can tow another trailer that has a 4 pole connection? thanks,

This Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036 should work very well for the pop up trailer you have with a 5-way trailer connector. You will just plug that in to the 4-way on your 2012 Kia Soul and plug the other end to the connector on your trailer.

The next thing you will need to do is figure out where to run the fifth (blue) wire of the # 20036. Most likely this wire is used for a reverse lockout for surge brakes, or reverse lights. If this is the case you will need to tap into the reverse light circuit of your Soul using the included quick-splice. I attached an installation video for the # 20036 for you to check out also.

Another option is that the fifth circuit is for charging a battery that is on your trailer. If that is the case you will need to run the wire to a 12 volt battery source.
