Reese Goose Box Adapter Air Bag Will Not Hold Air

Question:

I bought a new camper and the 20K gooseneck from North Gate in GA. The dealership didnt give me any owner manual. Just told me to inflate the bag till it is in the green. When I get to my home the front of my camper is 5inch off my bed. I called the dealer and I was told ever 100 miles I needed to stop and add air vack to the bags. It this true??

No. There is definitely a leak in the air bag in the Goose Box # RP85FR. To be clear, the system has a relief valve that, when there is excess pressure in the back, will vent air. It is recommended to fill the bag until it reaches the green area and then add a few more pounds of air. Tow the trailer and step on the brakes a few times. Excess air will vent out. The remaining air should be at or near the green area and that would be the optimum air pressure.

If after doing this more air has leaked out then it is likely a leak at the Schrader valve. The valve can be replaced by one of the same rating and size. But if the leak is at the air bag then it would have to be replaced under warranty. You can determine if and where the leak is by putting soapy water at the valve and anywhere else it may be leaking. If you see bubbles then that is a leak.
