Solution for More Ground Clearance for Cargo Carrier on a 2011 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Draw-Tite 75270 Max-Frame Receiver - More Ground Clearance Above hitch installed on 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan. Looking to see if there is an adequate riser that will provide additional ground clearance for my cargo carrier CURT 18153 Basket-Style Cargo Carrier. Most riser options I see dont appear to have enough throw to clear the bumper before it starts the rise.

We do have the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544 which you can use to hold a Cargo Carrier up higher on your 2011 Honda Odyssey, but the downside is that you will lose 50% of the weight capacity of the hitch or your vehicle (whichever is lower).

The Draw-Tite trailer hitch has a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 675 lbs so that means it can only hold 337-1/2 lbs including the weight of a carrier. This means that you can only carry 267-1/2 lbs of cargo in this carrier and that is assuming that the trailer hitch TW is lower than that of your Odyssey (which is rarely the case).

We have many cargo carriers that will fit your 2" hitch receiver. I have attached a link to those carriers. I especially like the Curt # C18145. It is simple, heavy duty, and has a high weight rating.
