What is the Speed Rating for a Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire  

Question:

Looking at various lightweight, enclosed trailers for hauling extra gear from OH to CO at interstate speeds 65-75+ mph. The trailer Im most interested a tire spec of 4.80 X 12 B. Can this tire handle the speed?

All of the trailer tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. Since a higher speed will produce more heat, it is not advised to go more than 65 on a trailer tire. Heat buildup is the main cause of tire failure. Trailer tires are made with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load. The thicker sidewall generates more heat. The faster a tire is spinning, the more friction there will be and that will lead to excess heat. I have included a link to our tire FAQ article for you.
