For your 2018 Jeep Compass with new body style, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 76144. I've attached a photo of a customer's install to assist in the final look. I don't know if there is a reason why the manufacturer didn't access the frame rails from the bumper, but I assume it is the amount of time for install. This methos of install is suggested to take the average professional installer about 40 minutes. According to the attached installation instructions, there is no cutting required only bending of a bracket and removing some caulk.

For your trailer wiring, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56369. This harness connects to the factory harness located behind each tail light. Then you will run the hot lead up to the vehicle battery so the harness draws power directly from the battery and protects your vehicle electrical components from overload. I've attached an article on routing that power wire to assist. This is the most common type of trailer wiring and it is really easy to install. You may also want the Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat # 18144 for this application.

For a ball mount, I recommend the B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10035B that will give you two hitch ball options. It also has a nice stowable option to protect your shins when not in use and has a clean look. You may also be interested in a hitch lock like # e98882 to protect your ball mount or other accessories you've invested in.
