Rear Axle Air Spring and Compressor for 2013 Silverado 2500 with B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch
Question:
My tow vehicle 2013 Chevy Silverado long bed 2500 HD Duramax Diesel with BandW Turnover Ball Hitch and companion 5th wheel hitch. I just picked up a 2013 Road Warrior 415rw 15k dry 18k max wet Hitch weight 3225 lbs. When hooked up I am close to the bump stops in the rear and I feel like I need to make the rear suspension a little stiffer for this much load. Before I bought the trailer I purchased a set of Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks that will be installed soon. What is the best way to upgrade the suspension for less sag in the rear? Was thinking of 1 ton springs but dont want to miss the mark and waste money. I also dont want a super harsh ride when empty as this is also my daily driver.

The best way to add rear suspension support when you need it for towing your larger 5th wheel, while at the same time not causing your unloaded ride quality to suffer, is to install air bags along with a compressor. This type of setup allows complete control of your rear axle support, which you can adjust on-the-fly as you drive to find the best possible point between support and comfort. Not having to pull over to change air pressure makes for much more convenient use.
Firestone kit # F2709 fits your 2500 and is compatible with your B&W in-bed hitch. These air springs are rated up to 7500-lbs so they will have plenty of leveling capacity. Installation is a no-drill bolt-on process as shown in the linked video.
I recommend the Firestone Air Command I Heavy-Duty Compressor # F2097. This is a single path compressor that will inflate/deflate both bags at once. If you want independent control of each bag (such as for when you're hauling uneven cargo loads in the bed) then use dual-path compressor # F2219. Tubing cutter # AL10530 is also recommend to ensure clean square cuts of the air lines which helps prevent leaks.
