Will the Prodigy P3 # 90195 Override the OEM Brake Controller on a 2013 GMC Sierra 3500

Question:

Installing this aftermarket controller on a truck that already has a factory controller that is tied into the display in the dash. Does the wiring that you show in your video under the dash supplied from factory bypass the wiring going to the display in the dash that runs to the rear trailer plug When you hook up the new controller ?? Are they both tied in to the same plug in the back somehow in the factory wiring to the dash and the aftermarket wiring supplied from the factory under the dash ? Will I get a service trailer brake system in my dash if I add the new controller?? Is it possible to make the aftermarket controller tie into the display in my dash so that I see it driving down the road in my dash ??? I unplug the factory controller and it lights up in my dash service trailer brake system Sorry for so many questions I just want to know before I buy the control. Thank you

After connecting the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 to the factory wiring under the driver side dash of your 2013 GMC Sierra some 10 Gauge wire # 10-1-1 will need to be routed back to your 7-Way and spliced into the back of the connector in place of your current brake controller output wire. This will bypass the factory wiring from your OEM controller so that the P3 works properly.

Unfortunately there is no way to get the P3 display to show up on your display but the good news is that according to GM Corporate Document Number 07-08-45-001, this will not result in any trailer brake display message showing on the driver information center.

I have linked a helpful article that we made which gives specific step-by-step instructions on how to install an aftermarket controller in a 2007 - 2013 GMC Full-Size truck that has the OEM brake controller like what you have.
