Expert Reply:
Vin numbers are usually located on the trailer tongue near the coupler. It is normally an alpha numeric number with 17 digits and can technically be anywhere on the trailer, so you will need to examine the entire frame closely. The VIN is usually stamped into a plate that is attached to the trailer but is could be stamped in the trailer frame somewhere.
If you cannot find the VIN, your State Highway Patrol is usually the call to get an appointment for them to assign a VIN for you. This can vary from state to state, so you'll need to check with your State Patrol or DOT.
