What Does the 6 Ply Rating Mean for Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire AM30660

Does 6 ply mean that the tire has 6 plies on the part of the tire that runs on the road or what?

A ply is a cord embedded in the rubber of the tire. It does not make contact with the road. Trailer tire # AM30660 has a 6-ply rating but has fewer physical plies in its construction. The reason for this, which is common for all tires, is the materials used in tire construction have gotten so much better that a tire can have a higher ply rating with fewer plies.
