Updates on the Yakima SkyBox 18 Roof Mount Cargo Box
Question:
So far this suggested item looks fantastic. Just right for my 07 Xterra. There is one thing worrying me about the box lid. It has been reported that the model bought in 2009 had problems with the lid peeling off on the highway or under crosswinds. The lid would rip right off in regular highway conditions. I need to know that this had had some modifications and upgrades since.

The Yakima SkyBox, # Y07336, has been updated, though I do not know if it was because of the issue you have described. Yakima has updated the latching mechanism from the old ball catch to super secure hook and post. They also made the front and rear drive bars move independently. They changed the lid supports in February 2010. And upgraded to a Zinc die cast handle in October 2010.
We carry the most current version of the box. I have incldued a link to the installation details for you.
