Single Wire ID Light Bar for a Boat Trailer Over 80 Inches Wide
Question:
I am replacing a rear center tail light on my boat trailer. Old light has 3 lights and only has one wire. Ive tried to hook up a two wire strip but when I screw the ground to the frame all my other lights dont work and the wiring harness gets hots. Do you offer a one wire rear center tail light for a boat trailer over 80?

Expert Reply:
Your old ID bar must have grounded through its mounting hardware since it only had the one wire. ID bar # MCL97RB also has just one wire and grounds through the mounting hardware. This is an LED light so it will draw much less power than incandescent lights. If your boat trailer is aluminum though a jumper ground wire should be attached between the frame and mounting hardware and attached to a steel surface or the main trailer connector ground.
A ground issue is why the other light was not working and caused the rest of the lights to fail. Make sure that all grounds for all of the lights are free of corrosion and attached to steel surfaces.
Another option in a different style is # MC99RB if you are going for a different look. I have linked some videos of these lights for you.
