Is there a similar hookup for the 2005 model? Or will this one work for it?

We do have a Class III Draw Tite hitch that fits your 2017 BMW X5. For that you'd want the part # 75492 which would fit and work well. It gives you a 2 inch hitch with capacities of 6,000 lbs total trailer weight.
