Can a 2008 Nissan Rogue be Used to Tow a 600 lb Honda Rubicon ATV on a Trailer

Question:

I am interested in a trailer hitch for my 2008 Nissan Rogue. I plan on towing a single trailer single ATV trailer? and haul my Honda Rubicon ATV 600lbs dry weight. I dont want to overdo my Rogue capacity, but want to ensure I get the proper hitch/tongue weight. What do you recommend for this application? I will not be towing anything else but this. Thanks,

When I looked up the owner's manual for your 2008 Nissan Rogue it said on page 9-20 that your vehicle has a max trailer weight rating of 1,500 lbs with manual mode or 1,000 lbs without manual mode. Either way your max tongue weight rating is 150 lbs.

For a trailer hitch I recommend the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98846 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and is rated for 3,500 lbs max trailer weight and 525 lb tongue weight. Since these are over the ratings for your Rogue you can tow to the full capacity of your Rogue. This means that as long as your trailer plus your Honda Rubicon ATV is under your weight ratings you are good to go.

Please note that you will also need a wiring harness like the T-One # 118480 and a hitch ball with ball mount like the what comes in the Ball Mount Kit # 989900 to complete your towing setup. I have attached a link to a helpful article on ball mounts so that you can be sure to get one with the proper rise/drop.
