Installation of a 7-Way Connector On a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado With 7 Bare Wires and No Plug

Question:

my truck does not have the connector plug for your harness, just 7 bare wires hanging there. Is there some connector socket I can attach these wires to or do I have to use wire connectors?,Ok we have installed the plug and most of the 7 way wiring harness. The problem is my truck has the normal 4 wires for lights, white, yellow, dark green, brown along with a blue one. Now the issue, my truck also has a light green wire and a red and black striped wire? Your harness has the 5 previously mentioned plus a separate red and black wire. How or where do they connect! Thanks

To get a 7-Way connector at the rear of your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado I would use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the 7 bare wires for function. Then, use the Pollak 4 Foot Pigtail Wiring Harness, part # PK11998, to connect to the 7 bare wires by function using the included butt connectors. I would not connect them by colors because the colors will not always match the same function.

After the wiring harness is attached correctly to your functioning bare wires on the vehicle you will then need to plug in the Pollak Replacement 7-Way Trailer Connector Socket, part # PK11893, to the # PK11998 wiring harness. This will give you a 7-Way at the rear of your vehicle.

If you are needing a mounting bracket for the 7-Way connector I would recommend the Pollak Mounting Bracket, part # PK12711U. This will allow you to install the 7-Way to the rear bumper of your vehicle.

Also, you may have a spot in your bumper for the installation of Pollak Twist-in, 7-Pole, Trailer Connector, part # PK11916. This connector will also plug into the # PK11998 wiring harness. See the included video.

If you wanted a 7-Way and 4-Way at the rear of your vehicle you can use the Hopkins 7-Way and 4-Way Connector, part # HM40975. This connector will also plug into the # PK11998 wiring harness mentioned above. It comes with a mounting bracket.

The wiring configuration of the 7 wires on the Pollak Pigtail Wiring Harness, part # PK11998 is, White is ground Yellow is reverse lights Green is right turn signal and stop Brown is running lights Blue is electric brakes Red is left turn signal and stop Black is 12-volt power (Battery) The only way to determine the function of each wire on your vehicle is to get a circuit tester like part # PTW2993, to check the functionality of each wire. To do this, you will need a friend to sit in the driver seat of the truck testing all the different functions, while you sit near the rear of the truck testing all the wires with the circuit tester to determine each wire function. Then, wire the function you have tested on the vehicle to the correct function listed above on the Pollak wiring harness.
