Solution for Transporting Bikes While Towing Pop-Up Camper

Question:

Hello, We have popup tent and would like to put hitch on our popup trailer bumper. We have 4 bikes. We would like to use hitch rather than roof top version. Is this possible? The measurement is 4 1/4 x 1 3/4. We would like to transfer bike rack to our current hitch from our SUV.

I may have a solution for you, however we do not have a bumper mount hitch receiver available that is designed to fit the 4-1/4 x 1-3/4 inch bumper on your camper.

It's also very possible that the bumper on your Fleetwood Cheyenne Pop-Up Camper is not rated for use with a hitch (you can check with Fleetwood to be sure), so your best option may actually be to still use your bike rack on your SUV. Another consideration you would need to note is that only some bike racks are tested and rated for use behind a trailer. This is because of the extra bounce and stress that is put on a bike rack at the rear of a trailer compared to when it is at the rear of a standard passenger vehicle. Leaving the rack on your SUV will eliminate this concern.

To do this, I recommend taking a look at the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 as long as your SUV is equipped with a 2 inch hitch receiver. This particular ball mount features a 2 inch receiver on top that can be used with hitch-mounted accessories like your bike rack while you're towing a trailer. It has a towing weight capacity of 7,500 pounds and a tongue weight limit of 750 pounds.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this ball mount that you can also check out.
