Should 1 or 2 Friction Sway Control Bars be Used on Jayco Trailer that Weighs 7,200 Pounds Loaded
Question:
I have the pro series wd setup and am looking to buy the reese sway control unit to reduce sway on my 28ft 31 with tongue Jayco 284bhs trailer. It weighs 6285lb dry weight and say approx 7200lbs with tongue weight, cargo etc. The RV dealer is telling me I only should need 1 sway control unit but im reading for that length and weight I should have 2 and my wd hitch does have the ball slots to setup one on each side of the trailer tongue? Any suggetions or literature on recommending 2? Thanks

Adding the Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 to your Pro Series Weight Distribution System like # PS49583 is a great idea. Generally speaking, it is a good idea to use two friction bars when the trailer's loaded weight is over 6,000 pounds or it is longer than 26 feet. Your 28 foot, 7,200 pound trailer exceeds both of these numbers so you will definitely get more benefit from using two of the bars.
I have attached a great article on weight distribution that you can use for reference. The section specifically regarding friction sway control bars is located toward the top of the article.
I have attached an installation video that you can also take a look at, along with the written installation instructions.
