How to Carry Bikes on a 2018 Toyota Tacoma with Access Tonneau Cover

Question:

I have a 2018 Tacoma SB. I have a Access Roll cover on the back but would like to add a rack for carrying bikes over the bed cover. Aside from a Thule TK1 kit or similar that would be drilled into the top of the bed rails, does anyone make brackets that might use the internal bed channels that would go above the bed rails that I could mount a rack to? Thanks!

The only option that you have to carry bikes on your 2018 Toyota Tacoma with an Access tonneau cover installed like the Access Original Roll-Up Tonneau Cover part # A15269 would be to install a roof rack and place them on the rack with the respective carrier or to install a trailer hitch if you don't already have one and place them on the hitch with the respective carrier. They do not make anything that will sit atop the bed rails and not require drilling when you have a tonneau cover installed, to my knowledge.

In order to recommend a roof rack for your Tacoma we would need to know what cab type you have in addition to your roof configuration. For example, if you have the double cap with a bare roof then I recommend the Yakima Round Crossbar System which is composed or part # Y00409, part # Y03536, and part # Y33TR. Then for a bike rack I recommend the Swagman Upright Roof Mounted Bike Carrier part # S64720.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13264 and then for a bike rack I recommend the Yakima RidgeBack 4 Bike Carrier part # Y02458. This method will be the easiest to load and unload bikes. It would also be the most cost effective option.
