Weight Distribution Hitch for Keystone Travel Trailer with 850-lb Tongue Weight
Question:
I need to purchase a weight distribution hitch but I need a suggestion. I am towing a 2018 Keystone Bullet 2200BH. The dry weight is 4000 lbs and the tongue weight is 450 lbs. I figure the weight will go up once loaded. Can you recommend a hitch that I should purchase? Thank you

The Keystone Bullet Crossfire 2200BH travel trailer has a GVWR of 6300-lbs. This is the most it can weigh when loaded up with your supplies, sporting gear and with all of its tanks filled. Since a properly-loaded trailer typically has tongue weight (TW) of 12 to 14% of its gross weight you can probably plan on your loaded TW being in the range of 750 to 900-lbs.
Selecting a weight distribution/sway control system (WD/SC) requires matching one to this loaded trailer TW, plus the weight of any cargo in the tow vehicle that sits behind its rear axle, such as a generator or big loaded cooler. The linked video and article will be helpful.
You can measure your loaded trailer's actual TW with scale # e99044 and to this TW add any cargo weight behind the rear axle of the vehicle. So for instance if you measure the loaded trailer TW as 750-lbs and you have a 100-lb generator in the back of the vehicle you'll want to use 850-lbs as your effective total TW. You will want to choose a WD/SC system so that this total TW falls in the middle of its operating range.
I suggest the Reese Strait-Line system # RP66084 since it works for TW from 600 to 1200-lbs, just right for 850-lbs total TW. This setup prevents sway from starting in the first place. All you need to add is the hitch ball to match your trailer coupler, either 2-inch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16-inch # 19286. You can see this system in the linked video.
