In order to determine the rise or drop you need on a ball mount with your 2015 BMW X5, you will just need to take a couple quick measurements.
Starting on the BMW, you will want to take a measurement from the ground to the top of the trailer hitch receiver. Then on your trailer, you will measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. If the measurement on your vehicle is greater, you will need a ball mount with a drop. If the trailer measurement was greater, you will need one with a rise. The difference between the two measurements will give you the exact rise or drop needed.
I have attached a great article on exactly this subject that you can also take a look at.
The Curt Ball Mount # D-4 you were looking at has a 3/4 inch rise or a 2 inch drop. I have attached a link that will take you directly to our available selection of ball mounts that you can look through if you find that the rise/drop on this ball mount is not sufficient.
If you don't yet have a trailer hitch on your BMW, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75600, which is confirmed to fit your 2015 X5. When we installed this hitch on your model BMW, we measured a distance of right at 13-1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver.
