Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2005 Nissan Xterra
Question:
I just obtained a 2005 Nissan Xterra SE. I dont believe it comes with a factory towing package because I had the dealer run the VIN and it didnt show that it came with one. What is the correct or best wiring harness package that I should get to install wiring? Im only considering the 4-way flat connector right now. I only plan to tow a small trailer that will hold my lawn tractor. If the effort to install a 7 pin is just as simple as the 4-pin, Ill consider that also. Is there a video out there that shows the installation?

We do have a nice selection of trailer wiring harnesses available that are confirmed to fit your 2005 Nissan Xterra that doesn't have the factory tow package or connector. Both the 4-Way and 7-Way options will be pretty simple, plug-and-play type installations, so your best bet is to simply choose the connector that matches what you have on your trailer.
If your trailer just has a 4-Way connector, then I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56225. If the trailer has a 7-Way, then you can use the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness # 118266 instead.
Both of these harnesses will install by simply plugging into a factory port located under the Xterra on the driver side and installing a few fuses. Both kits also include the needed jumpers and relays to activate the tow package on a vehicle that wasn't equipped with one.
I have attached a couple installation videos for both harnesses on later model Xterras that you can use for reference. In both cases, the process should be almost identical for your 2005 model Xterra.
