Correct Weight Distribution System for R-pod I80 With 500 lbs Tongue Weight
Question:
I have a 2015 Ford F-150 that I plan to use to tow an R-pod 180. It has a TW of about 500 lbs. I have a Curt 17352. Would it be crazy to use that to tow the R-pod?

Crazy might be a bit extreme, but the answer is you will not want to use the Curt Weight Distribution System # C24UR with your trailer. This system is rated for use with a total tongue weight (the tongue weight of your loaded R-pod 180 plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2015 Ford F-150) of 800 lbs - 1,000 lbs. That means essentially it will be like you aren't using a weight distribution system at all.
As long as your total tongue weight is 500 lbs I recommend checking out the Reese Weight Distribution System # RP66541 which is rated for use with total tongue weights between 400 lbs and 800 lbs. It comes with a shank though you would need a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" diameter shank, either # A-90 for a 2" ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16" ball.
